This morning I went to Publix and bought 14 packs of steam fresh veggies, 4 boxes of eggo waffles, 4 kiwi fruits, and 3 apples. I spent 13 cents. That is right people 13 cents. I did have a $5 off $25 coupon from a competitor. Aside from that I had (14) 50 cents off steam fresh veggie coupons, two $1 off 2 eggo coupons, and two $2 off fresh fruit when you buy eggo coupons. I will post a pic later of my take.
Happy couponing. Now on to free sausage at Bi-Lo. More about that later!

Tick, Toc, Tick, Toc
Please have patience with me. Getting all this information together is taking me a little longer than I had suspected that it would. I am hoping to have the first posting up this Monday. Wish me luck!

Yes, I have been gone a while!!!
So, I fell off of the blogging map for a while. Forgive me. Life at my house has been really busy. Between starting a new business, and becoming a "Super Coupon Queen," time has been something that there is a scarce amount of. BTW-I have been able to combine my Super Coupon ability into my business and made myself have a little extra profit margin.
But, I am back. The format of the Peach among Crabs is going to change a little. In this couponing journey, I realized that one problem people have after they learn the ways of the q's (that is short for coupons), they don't know how to put the foods together that they bought to make a meal. I can help with that.
About 3 weeks ago, my family decided that we were not going to eat out for two weeks straight. No one thought that we would make it, but we did. Well, sorta. Hubby had to eat out twice for business, but that was allowable. Now, I am not saying that we ate every meal sitting in our house. One night we took dinner to a friends house and ate with their family. When I/we were going to be out during lunch we packed a lunch to avoid the temptation of pulling through a drive thru. The rules were pretty simple. We had to plan meals from what we had on hand (originally I was not going to do any shopping the whole two weeks, but HT triple coupons were too good to pass up), and whatever we ate had to come from the house, regardless of where we were physically going to eat it.
Hubby loved it. He always feels like the luckiest guy around when he get to eat left overs for lunch. I learned a lot from it. You don't realize how much you spend on eating out, until you truely stop doing it. I found myself thinking there must have been a bill that I forgot to pay or something.
Anyway, I am going to try to help all my couponing buddies out there pull meals together from the foods that they are buying. Each week I will post what our family is going to eat for the week, and let you know which foods are coming from current sales. I will also post what I spent on groceries for the week, and what I bought. If you want to match q's to the sales, you will have to visit my friends over at Southern Savers to get that info. Another great site you should visit is Faithful Provisions.
Friday is shopping day for me, so you can expect a full report some time on Saturday. I hope this will serve my friends well, because to me, if you help enough people get what they want, that will help you to get what you want.

The Crabby Chef is Going Full Steam
Well, the Crabby Chef is moving right along, and I am happy to report that we are going to start taking food orders on 3/1/09. I feel like such a big girl!
This weekend I did a small dry run with some guinea pigs and delivered the food to them on Monday. I got rave reviews this morning, and I think everyone ate the same meal first. One of my G.P. called this morning to say that she felt like she was eating at a fancy restaurant without having to worry about the kids behavior and all. I thought that was a great compliment, and a perspective of the business that I had not thought about.
So, I thought I would post what we are eating this week, since I have had a lot of verbal comments about how people enjoyed reading the menu last time. The first two meals are Crabby Chef meals.
Monday- Smothered Pork Loin Chops, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and Broccoli in Browned Butter
Tuesday- Beef Stew, Lemon Roasted Green Beans, and Garlic Bread
Wednesday- French Onion Soup, Roasted Beet Salad, and wheat baguette
Thursday- Cheddarwursts, Hot Slaw, Sweet Potato Fries
Friday- Ham and Potato Soup
Saturday- Thai Red Curry Chicken, Pickled Cucumber Salad, and Jasmine Rice
Sunday- Dinner out (I am sure I will need a kitchen break by then)
I hope that you are eating well and staying warm this week!

What's for Dinner?
I am often asked what we eat for dinner at my house. I guess that because I am a good cook, people expect that we eat extravagantly. That really isn't the case. I might make a few more ethnic meals than most people, but aside from that it is your usual meat, starch, veg combo.
So, here is our meal plan for this week:
Monday- Roast lemon rosemary chicken on top of roasted vegetables (potatoes, mushrooms, onions, red and yellow bell pepper). This is the ultimate one pot meal. I just cut up all the veg, throw the chicken on top and roast at 425 for an hour to an hour and 20 minutes.
Tuesday- We ate out at Ye Old Fashioned. I had an egg salad sandwich, the boys had hot dogs. It was so not a healthy day!
Wednesday- Chicken Korma, Saag Paneer, and Garlic Naan. This is an Indian meal. The chicken has a spicy coconut sauce, Saag Paneer is a spinach dish with Indian Paneer cheese in it. Naan is a type of flat bread.
Thursday- Grilled Terriyaki Pork Tenderloin, Boxed pasta Salad made healthier by adding more peas and bell pepper, and steamed carrots.
Friday- Oven braised Babyback ribs with BBQ sauce, baked beans, corn on the cobb, and garlic bread. My son adores ribs and beans and corn, so this meal is all for him.
Saturday- Shake and Bake Parmesan Chicken nuggets, steamed green beans, and smashed garlic potatoes.
Sunday- Chuck roast in the crock pot, mushroom brown rice, and roasted broccoli.
We do eat a lot of garlic. This week is unusual because we are eating more pork than normal, and we are not eating any seafood. If I find some good looking fruit at the store over the weekend, I might make a crisp.
So, what do you eat for dinner? Is there a regular go to meal that you eat every week? Does your family always eat dessert? Tell us, because enquiring minds want to know.

Taking a Leap of Faith
So, this blog really is not going to be about food, but it is about the peach among crabs, and it's my blog and I will do what I want to.
Just this past week, I decided to start my own business. It is going to be called, "The Crabby Chef." Basically, I am going to be teaching cooking classes in people's homes and offering precooked meal delivery once a week for heat and eat type meals.
The pricing will be similar to the cost of take-out or maybe even a little cheaper. I just feel like a lot of SAHMs are having to go back to work (at least part-time) to make ends meet and I see so many women out getting take-out for their families.
I have two goals here:
1. To teach women (and men for that matter) how to make better "from scratch meals" for their families. From basics of proper knife handling to cooking with diverse ethnic ingredients we will cover it all.
2. To save families from eating so much take out. It really is riddled with countless bad ingredients, and is often fat laden or fried. If mom or dad don't have time to cook, let me deliver a nice home cooked meal that just needs a reheat in the oven or microwave. Please people, step away from the take out menu.
I really find true joy in teaching people about cooking. To see that spark of excitement in someone's eyes when they realize that they can make amazing food with simple ingredients, just is like angels singing to me.
So, for my friends out there that pray, please pray that the Lord guides me in this endeavor, and that I serve His will through my company.
So, I am taking this leap of faith and I pray that good things will come of it!!!

Spaghetti and Squash Don't Mix
So, in light of the holiday feasts that we have attended, and the cookies we have consumed, hubby and I decided that we should try to lighten things up a bit this week, just to make sure we don't gain back any of the weight we have already lost. (For those of you just tuning in, don't be confused this is definitely a food blog, and not a dieting blog).
Anyway, we decided to give spaghetti squash a try as a substitute for real spaghetti, because it is a major calorie savings. So, I read that you could cook the squash whole in the crock pot, and I did just that. It did give us a little freight when the squash blew up because no one said anything about puncturing it before hand. No mess though. It just made the lid jump on the crock pot, and I immediately envisioned squash all over the counter and ceiling.
Fast forward to the part where we actually eat the stuff, and let's just say that it was a little runny, because water kept seeping out of the "noodles". I would not say that the taste was bad, it just was not good. I think you come to expect a certain texture when it comes to pasta, and let just say that squash does not have that same texture.
This is among the many reasons why I will not be living the low carb lifestyle. There really is just no substitute for bread or pasta. I can do whole wheat pasta just fine, so that is what I will be sticking to.
All I can save about tonight's meal is that if it weren't for the garlic bread, we would have been really hungry. What can I say, you have to sprinkle a little bit of naughty in with your nice!
